'Preparation for Adulthood' (PfA) is our main curriculum driver and Personal, Social, Health & Economic (PSHE) education and Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) are taught to all students in their PfA lessons.
PfA is broken down into four strands:
Each of these strands are taught in all year groups, in line with our PfA long term plan.
The PfA strands are split into pillars, each addressing a vital aspect of building appropriate independence as an adult. These pillars for each strand have been taken from the PSHE Association SEND Framework, the PfA Framework and the Autism Education Trust Framework.
The curriculum revisits key pillars across the year, building learning and understanding through routines, repetition, and retrieval. Students work towards End of Key Stage Outcomes in each pillar.
The long term plans for PfA for key stage 3 and key stage 4, which includes PSHE & RSE, can be found on the 'Preparation for Adulthood' page.
Parents of children in secondary school have the right to request that their child be withdrawn from some, or all, of the sex education aspects of RSE.
Before withdrawing or making a request, the school strongly urges parents to carefully consider their decision as sex education is a vital part of the school curriculum and supports child development.
Parents cannot withdraw their child from 'relationships', 'health education', or the elements on 'human growth and reproduction'.
Any parent of a secondary student wishing to withdraw their child from sex education should put their request in writing and send it to the Headteacher using the downloadable form below.
The Headteacher will arrange a meeting to discuss their concerns.
