Curriculum Intent

Preparing for Adulthood

The main driver of our curriculum is 'Preparation for Adulthood'.

Learning builds through KS3 and into KS4 to prepare students for both the next stage in their education, which is mostly in our post-16 provision, and also for adulthood beyond school.

Our Three Pathways

Our students are grouped into three outcome pathways in Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4).

These pathways reflect the different aspirational outcomes for students upon leaving Isebrook. The delivery of the curriculum looks different for each outcome, to suit the individual needs of students and to support students in reaching their intended outcomes.

Personalised Approach

Each individual pathway will use a personalised approach to ensure that students are supported appropriately to access the curriculum.

The curriculum for each pathway is summarised in three key elements:

  • Intent – What we aim to achieve through our curriculum.
  • Implementation – How we deliver the curriculum to ensure effective learning.
  • Impact – How we measure the success of our approach and the progress our students make.

Pathway One

Intent:

For students to learn how to communicate with others and have a secure sense of self and safety.

Implementation:

A sequenced curriculum that also features repeated activities and routines over time to support working memory.

Core subjects are woven throughout the timetable in 'preparation for adulthood' lessons.

Impact:

Students make progress against their education, health and care (EHC) plan outcomes, preparing them for the next stage in their education, including post-16 or specialised college placements, leading to fulfilled supported living and community engagement.

Pathway Two

Intent:

For students to develop their intrapersonal skills and how they relate to others in the wider world.

Implementation:

A sequenced curriculum that is focused on 'preparation for adulthood' and also includes discrete lessons in core subjects.

Impact:

Students make progress against their education, health and care (EHC) plan outcomes and are prepared for the next stage in their education, including post-16 or college placements, leading to supported internships or volunteering opportunities.

Pathway Three

Intent:

For students to understand their place in the community, demonstrating skills to employable.

Implementation:

A spiral, sequential, semiformal curriculum with personalised, vocational pathways developing in KS4.

Impact:

Students make progress against their education, health and care (EHC) plan outcomes and are prepared for the next stage in their education, including post-16 or college placements, leading to independent employment or volunteering.
